Port 8080 is registered with IANA as http-alt. Typical users: Tomcat, Jenkins, web proxies, dev servers and container backends behind a reverse proxy like nginx or Caddy.
Usually not public: bind the backend to 127.0.0.1 and expose only the reverse proxy on 443. Docker trap: -p 8080:80 bypasses UFW/firewalld because Docker inserts its own iptables rules. Use -p 127.0.0.1:8080:80.
Typical: Address already in use when several services claim 8080, and redirects to :8080 in absolute URLs when the proxy doesn't pass the Host header correctly.
