Your machine does not query the root servers itself; it asks a resolver: the router's, the ISP's, a public one such as 1.1.1.1, or your own like Unbound. The resolver walks from the root zone via the TLD to the responsible name server and caches each answer for its TTL.
Because every resolver keeps its own cache, different users can see different results for a while after a change. When troubleshooting, query the authoritative server directly and compare with public resolvers.
On Linux servers with systemd-resolved, /etc/resolv.conf often only shows 127.0.0.53. The upstream resolver actually in use is listed by resolvectl status.
