SRV names follow the pattern _service._proto.domain, e.g. _caldavs._tcp.example.com. The value holds priority, weight, port and target host. Clients such as Thunderbird, DAVx5 or SIP phones use it to find their server without manual input.
The target must be a hostname with an A or AAAA record, not a CNAME. A target of . means the service is deliberately not offered.
Common mistake: the DNS panel appends the domain automatically and the name ends up as _caldavs._tcp.example.com.example.com.
